Learn from me

Hey, I'm Kayla! 👋

At the beginning of 2020, I never thought once about blogging or content creation as a career. Then, I saw my partner, Chris Pieta, start a successful product photography business. He showed me that it was possible, and I was inspired. I knew I could take the leap and build my own business from scratch.

It wasn't easy going from a steady paycheck to inconsistent income. Especially without any background in business, sales, or creative work (I was a biology major).

I made a lot of mistakes in my first year! I had absolutely no knowledge of SEO, I cut corners to try to save time and money (which led to spending more time and money later on), and I undervalued my work.

I've learned a lot from my mistakes, as well as courses like Cooking With Keywords (affiliate link), an audit with Casey Markee, TopHatRank's SEO for Bloggers, and much more.

Now, I want to use my knowledge to help you! I'm so excited to work with you one-on-one to improve your business, mindset, and achieve your goals!

I launched my baking blog, Broken Oven Baking Company, in May 2020. Prior to this, I had very little experience with photography, recipe development, writing, or even reading blogs.

Within 2 years, I was able to grow my blog audience to 50K sessions/month, join Mediavine's ad network, work with big brands (like Target), get featured on Good Morning America, and leave my full-time corporate job.

I don't say these things to brag. I share them to let you know that your dreams are achievable! Even the ones you don't have yet.

What will you learn?

  • How to do keyword research

  • How to analyze your content & audience

  • How to create the best user experience

  • How to structure your website and blog posts

  • How to update evergreen and seasonal content

  • How to create and stay focused on your goals

  • How to schedule days to prevent burnout

  • How to outsource tasks and hire contractors

  • How to diversify your income streams

  • How to create efficient systems

  • What SEO is and how it applies to food blogs

  • The best SEO and technical practices/tools

  • How to optimize and import/export photos

  • How to use GA4 and GSC

  • How to prepare for & optimize your blog with ads

…and more! Member ideas are always welcome.

  • Kayla has changed not only my blog, but my outlook on my business, and my life. Since working with Kayla, my blog has experienced 70-120% growth month over month, for the last 3 months. I have systems in place and new processes that allow me to work smarter, not harder. When I came to Kayla in January, I had under 4K monthly sessions, today [March], I have 14K.

  • With her expertise, I've not only improved my website's performance but also gained the confidence to navigate technical challenges. Her guidance in optimizing paid plugins, domains, and themes has been invaluable, and I highly recommend her to anyone seeking to elevate their digital platform.

    -Meghan, Meghan It Up

  • My 1:1 coaching call with Kayla was exactly what I needed. She gave me clarity on the new niche I was approaching and how I can still incorporate recipes that I love making. She is super chill and was happy to answer all my questions (yes, I had a list lol!)

    -Melissa, The Bonnie Fig

  • We recently transitioned our blog over to Wordpress, and I had numerous questions/concerns...she managed to go over all of them in an hour, also sending over additional notes, resources, and answers to my questions after the call. She is also just incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and thorough, often citing where she learned certain things. I truly already think of the investments we've made in our blog so far, my call with Kayla is going to be one of the things that moves the needle the most.

  • My goodness your attention to detail in recapping our call is AMAZING!! Thank you thank you thank you!! I walked into blogging almost 2 years ago, and I feel as if in the last two months l've learned so much more than the 2 years combined - all thanks to you!

  • Kayla is truly a wealth of knowledge in this industry and luckily for the rest of us, she's incredibly generous with it! My call with Kayla was so informative and she provided me with so many actionable steps that I could take to better my blog...Kayla was professional, kind and not pushy or judgmental about the state of my site (lol). This call was truly more valuable any other coaching call or any other courses l've taken.

    -Lauren, Pinch of Parsley

  • My call with Kayla was super helpful and informative. She is full of knowledge about the food blogging industry and is so willing to help others succeed. Kayla provided me with a list of steps to take following our call and I am truly grateful. I highly recommend booking a call with Kayla, you won't regret it!

  • Every call is personalized; she answers all your questions and suggests ways to grow. For example, on our call, I needed to understand some technical stuff, and we very quickly addressed this via screen share on Zoom-this is excellent, especially if you are a visual learner.

    -Donna, LadyPearTree

  • Kayla is very professional, friendly and supportive. This was honestly the best coaching call I've ever had and I feel more confident about the future of my blog. With Kayla's help, I was able to set goals, define a strategy, prioritize next steps and learn new tips and tricks that I didn't know before!

    -Marley, Baked Abundance

1-on-1 Coaching FAQs

  • First, you’ll fill out some details and pick a date for our 90-minute coaching call.

Once your call is booked, I’ll conduct the site audit and send you Loom videos + a detailed summary via Google Docs at least 5 days prior to our call. This will give you time to review the videos & document and add any questions you’d like to go over together.

During our call, we’ll take time to review any outstanding items and questions you have.

Afterwards, I’ll share any additional resources that may help you and be available for questions via email.

  • During a site audit, I’ll take a thorough look at your blog and provide personalized feedback, advice, and resources. While it isn’t a live 1-on-1 call (unless you book the audit+call), the audit will be recorded so that you’re able to see exactly what I’m looking at and I can show specific examples of what I recommend.

While looking through your main pages & a few blog posts, I’ll review:
    -user experience (UX)
    -core web vitals (CWV)
    -accessibility
    -branding
    -niche
    -keywords
    -linking
    -overall site structure
    -blog post structure
    -image optimization
    -recipe card
    -& more!

My goal is to provide you with actionable advice to improve UX, increase your confidence, and stay up-to-date in this ever-changing industry.

By walking you through the audit via video recording, you can gain a deeper understanding of my thought process and reasoning, and apply it to your website & business moving forward.

  • During a blog post audit, I’ll take a thorough look at 2 blog posts (of your choice) and provide personalized feedback, advice, and resources. While it isn’t a live 1-on-1 call, the audit will be recorded so that you’re able to see exactly what I’m looking at and I can show specific examples of what I recommend.

Things I’ll look at during a blog post audit:
    -blog post structure
    -image optimization
    -linking
    -recipe card
    -keywords
    -competitor analysis

My goal is to provide you with actionable advice to improve user-experience and rank higher in search engines.

By walking you through my review via video recording, you can gain a deeper understanding of my thought process and reasoning, and apply it to your blog posts moving forward.

  • Many of the components I review during these audits involve SEO and ways you can improve it. However, SEO is just one piece of the blogging puzzle!

I have a great understanding of recipe blog SEO, enjoy staying on top of SEO best practices, and love sharing my knowledge with fellow food bloggers. That being said, I do not consider myself an SEO expert. If you’re looking for an extensive SEO-specific audit, I recommend Casey Markee.

  • Of course! If you find yourself in need of more than 1 session, please feel free to sign up for as many as you’d like. You’re welcome to mix and match audits+calls as well!

If you know that you would like 4 or more sessions, please reach out to me at kayla@brokenovenbaking.com and I’d be happy to work with you on a personal coaching package!

  • Beginner to intermediate food bloggers will benefit the most from my 1-on-1 coaching services.

If you’re thinking of starting a food blog, I’d recommend starting with a Coaching Call so we can set you up for success right away!

If you’re an established food blogger looking for specific advice or want to ensure you’re on the right track, audits and coaching calls will provide you with clarity, resources, and confidence to move forward.

Still not sure if this is right for you? Send me an email (kayla@brokenovenbaking.com) or DM me on Instagram (@foodblogcoach) and we can chat about what you’re looking for and how I can help!

  • I’m always happy to chat about whether or not we’d be a good fit to work together! Feel free to send me an email (kayla@brokenovenbaking.com) or a DM on Instagram (@foodblogcoach).
